Darius Lerup
Darius is a trainee mindfulness-based relational Core Process psychotherapist working with adults and offering low-cost therapy
I believe that the core of therapeutic work lies in bringing awareness and sensitivity to what is unfolding within the client’s experience. While therapists do crucial work to hold and support a client, it is the client who will connect with their own orientation towards health and in so doing take leaps of faith, cross thresholds into parts unknown, and find the courage to pursue freedom and peace within themselves.
Meditation practice is a cornerstone of Core Process Psychotherapy, and has been a continuous friend along my therapeutic journey. Meditation-based skills and inquiry provide a crucial perspective and resource within my therapeutic work.
Whatever leads someone to seek therapy, the aim of psychotherapy is not to change or “fix” ourselves, but to understand and change the ways in which we relate to our own experience. What therapy and mindfulness share is an insistence that non-judgement provides an inherently healing way of relating with experience. By learning to be with our experience without fighting or trying to change it, we can begin to let go of conditioned patterns that may once have protected us, but that now stand in the way of connecting with satisfaction, freedom, and health.
The focus of my therapeutic inquiry is on helping clients to connect thoughts, dreams, ideas, and fantasies, with the felt sense of emotions as they arise within the body. Whether someone is coming to therapy for self-exploration, to reflect on experience, or for support with a particular challenge, working with embodied experience provides new ways of meeting ourselves and the world around us.
