James is a HCPC-registered counselling psychologist working with individuals

I am an HCPC-registered counselling psychologist. I bring warmth, enthusiasm, challenge, and humour to my practice, grounded in research evidence and a deep commitment to the therapeutic relationship.

I use a pluralistic approach, meaning I am trained and experienced in a range of therapy models, including person-centred, psychodynamic, CBT, and systemic therapies. How I use these approaches is tailored to your specific difficulties and what best suits your needs. While I draw on my expertise to determine what might fit best, it is also important to me to involve you in this conversation.

Having worked in mental health for the past ten years across a variety of NHS settings, I can help address a range of difficulties, including anxiety, phobias, grief, depression and low mood, addiction, trauma, compulsive behaviours, and relationship challenges.

I also provide couples therapy to help overcome interpersonal conflicts and difficulties. Having completed my doctoral research in this area, I have a particular specialism in working with couples and individuals experiencing sexual difficulties. This includes sexual dysfunction, low desire, and compulsive or addictive sexual behaviours. Having worked at an LGBTQ+-focused NHS psychosexual service, I am sensitive to difficulties associated with sexuality and gender diversity, as well as non-traditional relationship arrangements and the full spectrum of sexual practices.

Alongside my private practice, I work at King’s College Hospital as a specialist psychologist supporting those with acute and chronic health difficulties. There, I help patients, families, and carers address the psychological impact of health conditions, health-related trauma, and health inequalities.

If you're interested in working together, please get in touch for a free initial telephone conversation. We can discuss your difficulties and whether I feel I would be the right person to support you, as well as give you the opportunity to see if you feel the relationship would be a good fit.

I see clients from the South London Therapy Group rooms in SE15 as well as remotely. Currently, I am only available on Fridays.
