Jim is a CBT and EMDR therapist working with young adults (18-25) and adults

There's rarely a neat moment when someone decides they're ready for therapy. Perhaps you've been coping well enough on the surface, but underneath things feel harder than they should. Or maybe something specific has come up that you'd like some support with. Either way, you don't need to have it all figured out before getting in touch.

I'm a CBT therapist based in London, working with adults both in person and online. I work collaboratively — which in practice means we figure things out together, rather than me handing down answers. My work is rooted in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and I draw on psychodynamic and schema-informed ideas where these feel like a natural fit. Sessions have a gentle structure to them, but there's always room to just talk.

Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others come with a more general sense that something needs to shift, without quite being able to name it yet. Both are perfectly fine places to begin. I try to keep things clear and human throughout — free from jargon, and always moving at a pace that feels right for you.

I have a particular interest in working with people who rely on substances or other unhelpful coping behaviours to get through difficult emotions. It's an area I've worked in for a long time and feel strongly about.

If you're thinking about therapy — whether for the first time or returning after a previous experience — please feel free to get in touch. A free initial consultation gives us both a chance to see whether working together feels like the right fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MSc in Psychology from the University of Greenwich and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Royal Holloway, University of London. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and adhere to their ethical and professional guidelines. I am currently training as an EMDR practitioner.

Before moving into private practice, I spent over six years working within NHS Talking Therapies, providing evidence-based treatment to people from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances. Prior to this, I worked as a mental health support worker in community and educational settings. I draw on this breadth of experience to offer therapy that is both clinically grounded and genuinely responsive to the individual.
